God, the world seems like such a depressing place

Whenever I get into these writing ruts, I typically try to rely on news to find things or topics that spark ideas or inspiration to write about.  Sometimes it’s local news, sometimes national, and sometimes worldly news.  The thing is, I’m looking for anything to spark a train of thought, and help me break the chains of a writer’s block.

Lately, even that’s been difficult, and I find myself sitting around feeling frustrated by the world at being so inadequate at providing me with inspiration, because everything I read is so downtrodden, depressing, and way too accommodating to the notion that if it bleeds, it leads.

Reading about local Atlanta news, it’s the same stories every day, of shootings here, shootings there, robberies in this place, car-jackings in that place.  And/or political corruption, or news that is so blatantly justifying towards the ideas that the people that run Atlanta, and the State of Georgia are about as crooked as cracks in the sidewalk.

So I look at sites like CNN, and look for news from a larger scope.  Bombings here, riots there, beheadings out in the Middle East, dear leader murdering people for no good reason out in North Korea, and then I just want to close my eyes and imagine a world where everyone weren’t so fixated on the tragic and gruesome as they are now.  I know I’m a pretty cynical person, but every now and then I prefer to not be so bombarded by horrific news from every single outlet, at every single level.

I’m in a little bit of a rut

The subject says it all.  I do feel like I’m in a little bit of a rut right now.

Naturally, I’m fairly clueless to why this is the case, although I suspect it has to do with the summer vacation I never really wanted, the new job, the adaptation of a new routine, the feeling of starting over from square one in a way, and that I kind of feel like a little fish in a big pond.  I make more money than I did at my previous job, and my commute has literally been slashed in half, even if I am working on somewhat of an island that I occasionally fret has the potential to impact my social life.

I’m a grown up, and I should be able to deal with things like this better than I probably am, but for whatever reason, I still feel like I’m in a rut right now.

The most noticeable things to me is the fact that I’m having difficulty getting excited about things lately.  And I have some amazing things to look forward to in coming months; Dragon*Con, a possible drunken Disney escapade, and my first-ever trip to Europe.  I know that every single one of those thing will very likely be great, fun and memorable occasions, but I’m just having a hard time pumping myself up to truly get excited about them.

Good thing I got out of there

Long story short: the State of Georgia caves under the pressure of all the anti-Confederate history rhetoric, will formally remove names of both Robert E. Lee’s birthday as well as Confederate Memorial Day from the calendar, starting in 2016.

In other words, no more Confederate Memorial Day.  QQ

Well, the day will still be a paid day off that most people out there will not get (including me now QQ x2), but it just won’t be called “Confederate Memorial Day” anymore.  It will be referred to as simply “state holiday” for those paying attention.

The struggles of trying to live like the past

I decided to take my lunch time to go run a few errands.  Specifically go to the gas station, pick up a small purchase I needed, and ship off a package of something I recently sold on eBay.  The caveat to it all was that I had left my wallet at the mythical girlfriend’s place, and all I had in my possession was a small amount of cash, presumably sufficient enough to be able to put gas in my car, make my purchase, and ship my package.

I figured it would take roughly 45 minutes or so to hit up all three destinations and accomplish all three of my planned tasks.  Somewhere around the 75th minute, I was parking back at the office, frothing at the mouth in aggravation at how long everything took.

It had nothing to do with traffic either; it’s simply the fact that everywhere I went, everything just took forever, for a myriad of reasons, sometimes a combination.  But the lasting thought in my head was that the basis of most of it revolved around people doing things a dated way, just how slow an inefficient it all was, and how I’d rather pull out my own teeth than to have to do things in this manner again, if it can be helped.

Is nothing sacred anymore??

TL:DR: Eternal lovers, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy are breaking up.

Ultimately, I think this is one gigantic ploy in order to drum up buzz and interest in The Muppets in general, but still, do all storytellers have to go to such dramatic lengths in order to do so?

Haven’t property creators learned from stuff like Peter Parker and Mary Jane?  I bet money, that FOX will regret separating Homer and Marge Simpson, and eventually bring them back together.

You know what Atlanta needs?

If you said “improved mass transit,” “road repairs,” “improved mass transit,” “more police manpower,” “improved mass transit,” “southside development,” or “improved mass transit,” you’re completely wrong.

But if you said “another sporting complex,” then you’ve hit the jackpot!  Ding ding ding!

SSDD: Dekalb County has agreed to build a $30 million dollar soccer complex for the eventual Atlanta MLS team.

It’s stories like this that really make me fucking hate Atlanta, sometimes.

Rockdale County is probably going to go broke after this year

Impetus: Rockdale County, Georgia, has decided that every student will be issued a laptop.  To do their homework.

Predicted result: by the end of the 2015-16 school year, Rockdale County, Georgia will suffer massive losses from stolen laptops, stolen parts, broken equipment, thieving and corrupt parents, students that move away or drop out, or any other factor that makes them regret putting thousands of dollars worth of laptops into the hands of teenagers, where they would have many hours of unsupervised time with them.

Seriously though, I really hope Rockdale has some pretty good legalese right now, to build a foundation from for future years of this, if this program lasts that long.  The thought is good, but the variable with the highest risk is simply the fact that people are involved.  I’ll be optimistic and say that like 85% of students will be fairly lawful and not too abusive of this arrangement, but the other 15% are going to really make the county ask themselves WHYYYYYYY??
